Chowli Curry (Black-Eyed Bean Curry)

vegetable oil

onions grated
2 medium (0.25 kg)
tomatoes chopped
2 medium (0.250 kg)
turmeric powder
1 tsp
red chilli powder
1 tbsp
5 tsp
coriander powder
2 tbsp
cumin powder
1 tbsp
black-eyed beans soaked overnight or in hot water for 2 hours and drained

4.5 cups
garam masala powder
1/2 tsp


Grind ginger and garlic into a paste. Heat oil in a cooker for about 2 minutes. Add onions and fry till golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste. Stir for a few seconds. Add all other ingredients except beans, water and garam masala powder. Cook till tomatoes are pulpy and oil shows separately (approximately 5 minutes), stirring occasionally. Add beans. Stir fry for about 3 minutes. Add water. Stir. Close cooker. Bring to full pressure on high heat. Reduce heat and cook for 8 minutes. Remove cooker from heat. Allow to cool naturally. Open cooker. Add garam masala powder. Stir. Serve hot.
